Curtis Herring affectionately called "POP" and to some of his friends "Monkee" was born December 23,1939 and transitioned from this life December 6, 2020 was born in Manning, South Carolina reared by the late Gina and Jaygo Herring.
Curtis received his education in Manning, SC, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille M. Garland and brother, McBride "Mac" Burgess. Curtis left Manning, SC to start employment with LTD Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator, in Baltimore, MD.
As a result of moving to Baltimore, Maryland he met Josephine Kerson and in March of 1972 they were married, to that union they had an extended family 1 daughter and 2 sons.
As a believer of Christ Curtis joined and became an active member of Allen A.M.E. Church, he started off as an Usher and ended up on the Security Ministry and later to become "Head Custodian".
Curtis touched many lives, he would always greet you with a smile, he loved spending time with his family. Curtis was a very humble man with a very pleasant personality, a wonderful spirit, he loved to mentor the young men of the family and friends and his community always explaining GOD'S expectation, that's how he ended up with the name "POPS".
Anyone that knew him knew that he was an AVID PITTSBURGH STEELERS Fan and would get into many debates with family and friends over his favorite Team.
His memories will always be cherished by his wife, Josephine; two daughters, Melanie Kerson and Vanessa Herring; two sons, Reginald and Gary Wilburn (who preceded him in death); one sister-in-law, Della Washington; one brother-in-law, Edward Kerson (who preceded him in death); three caring sisters, Mae Burgess of Manning SC, Bernice B. McElveen of Turbesville, SC and Gloria B. (Adrian) Ridgill of Manning, SC; two special nieces, Minnie Hamlett and Joyce(Clarence) Johnson, three grandson, Marvin Smith Jr., Travon and Keyshawn Wilburn; one great grandson, Kei'yon Lucas-Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
