Obituary

CYNTHIA B. ENNIS, daughter of the late George and Elsie Hill, was born on January 21,1948, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was also the sister of the late Elsie C. Hill and Edgar Green. After a brief illness, Cynthia entered into eternal life on April 6, 2025.

Cynthia was educated in the Baltimore City Public School system. After graduation, she briefly attended college before becoming employed with the Social Security Administration in August 1967.She began her career as a clerk; however, her love of people, equal rights, and being of service to others, prompted her to join the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 1923. She quickly rose from Union Representative to Union President. For more than 40 years, she was a dedicated public servant, voter educator, and a member of a variety of steering committees.

Her service to others and advocacy garnered much recognition throughout her career. In 2018, she received the A. Philip Randolph Institute SUPER LEGACY AWARD (APRI) for more than 30 years serving as an exemplary leader and being a major part of every fight that impacted workers and their families. She also received several Deputy Commissioner Awards and Director Citations from SSA for improving quality of service and creating a positive work environment. Cynthia's tireless efforts have also been recognized by Elijah Cummings-Congressional Achievement Award, United Way of MD-Philip H. VanGelder Award, Maryland General Assembly, Martin O'Malley-Governor's Citation as well as an invitation to Barack Obama's 2009 Inauguration.

Cynthia was briefly married to Earl B. Ennis, Sr. Although the marriage was short lived, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Adrienne Patreena and Earl Bobby Jr., both of Baltimore, Maryland.

Cynthia loved a great debate and could go toe to toe with anyone when it came to politics. You could always find her television tuned in to CNN or any major news station. She also was an avid sports fan who absolutely adored the Baltimore Ravens and loved horse racing. Prior to the Ravens coming to Baltimore, she was a fan of the Washington Redskins, since they were the closest to Baltimore. She was truly a ride or die fan because win or lose, nobody could touch her Ravens. Her love of horse racing prompted her to get a part time job at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, Maryland. She worked every weekend, for more than ten years. No matter how tired she was, she went where she was needed. Always!

Cynthia was the definition of friendship, always willing to lend a helping hand. You could always count on her to be one of your biggest cheerleaders and she made sure you knew it. She loved shopping and traveling. She also loved doing things with her hands. Cynthia was very artsy. She loved crafting, baking, making things for others and she absolutely loved working in her garden. She was also an extreme collector of all things family. She was extremely proud of her children and her nieces/nephews.

Her admiration and pride can be seen through pictures from birth to every monumental moment in each of their lives; elementary school report cards, progress reports, school play's programs, programs from other events, graduations, prom's, etc. spanning over fifty years.

She leaves to fondly cherish her memory, children, Adrienne and Earl; grandchildren, Earl Ill and Earlishia; nieces, Kimberly Bailey and Kelli Brown; great nieces/nephews, Kabria, Keenan, Autumn and Amauri;great great nieces/nephews,Kaliana, Kaydence, Kassidy, and Kane and a host of other relatives and frien
