Cynthia Annette Harkless, 71, was born on September 23, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland. The eldest child of the late Katherine (Williams) Sparrow and late Warren Sparrow Sr., said her farewell to this life on November 28, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Cynthia received her formal education in the Baltimore City public schools. She was a graduate of Frederick Douglass High School who shortly after graduation began a career in Defense working for the National Security Agency (NSA). After more than 40 years of service, she retired from NSA but continued working as a government contractor, ending her career with Leidos Corporation.
Cynthia loved her family and had a strong spirit of giving. She was a true friend - resourceful, a giver of sage advice and always, always willing to lend a helping hand. She especially enjoyed the holiday season, adopting families and giving gifts of joy. She opened her home and heart to many. She was an amazing baker and is known by many for her delicious home baked pies and cobblers. Cynthia was a passionate reader who appreciated relaxing at the beach, uplifting music and taking family vacations.
Cynthia accepted Christ as her savior early in life. She was baptized and became a longtime member of the Tabernacle Church in Laurel, Maryland. She was a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. Cynthia made many friends and enjoyed participating in plays at the church. She especially enjoyed her role in the "Scenes of Easter". Cynthia is most known for having an outgoing personality and friendly disposition.
In the early 70's, Cynthia met and began dating Gerald (Jerry) Harkless. On September 7, 1973, they were joined in holy matrimony. From this union, they were blessed with one son, Sean Jarod Harkless.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband of more than 43 years, the late Gerald (Jerry) Harkless, her parents, and her brother Michael Sparrow. Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Sean Harkless, grandchildren Christian, Samuel, and Amylia, a sister, Wanda Daney, brother Warren Sparrow, her Aunt, Frances Harris and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
