Darlene Watkins, born October 15, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland to Thelma and the late Raymond Watkins. Darlene was one of five children (Lorraine, Marian, Darlene, Charles and Carolyn.) She was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. As a teenager and young adult she was always concerned about her appearance. (She could never leave out the door without her lipstick.) She met and married Joseph Holley, and from this union 4 sons were born (Joe-Joe, Darold, Bryan and Antoine.) However she had numerous kids she adopted, and they adopted her as their Mom. Darlene had many gifts, the two she will be noted for was helping people, and making the world beautiful through her arts and crafts. She would always say "a little paint make anything look better". Flowers were her thing, real or artificial she had to have them around. She believed flowers added color and made things beautiful. Affectionately known to family as Dolly or Doll. She also refer to herself as Diva "D" an inside family/friend joke. Darlene was care giver to many family members and friends. When you needed something done you could always call on Dolly. Always a sounding board and never judgmental She would be a loyal friend. Darlene accepted Christ as a young woman, and displayed that in how she lived. She would always participate in church activities in her own way, and using her gifts. She was employed at Charlestown Retirement Community, and retired from there 12 years ago. Her retirement was spent enjoying herself, and taking care of family members. She would spend Tuesday's with her sisters and mother (The Golden Girls) shopping, eating, and they were all happy just being together. Although she was a delicate flower, she could be tough as nails with 4 boys that she raised to be grown men and she was their best friend. In that process she would assist her boys with everything from construction, demolition, and car repair. Her life work and mission have always been helping, family, friends, neighbors and anyone in need. So when illness struck her, people around the world along with family, friends, and neighbors partitioned God on her behalf that's shows how she made an impact in this world. Darlene was diagnosed with a terminal illness on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 and departed soon after the diagnosis. She will always be remembered by: Thelma Watkins (Mother): Marian Hollis and Carolyn Allen(Sisters); Darold Holley and Bryan Holley (Sons); Viewing Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home
