On Saturday, January 4, 2014 God decided He needed another good soldier to add to His army in heaven. God chose His child Darrell Ellsworth Washington. Darrell was born July 18, 1953, at Gallinger Hospital in Washington, DC to the late William Henry Washington, Sr. and Elsie Rachel Washington. He was one of eight children. Educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools is where he began his education quest for knowledge, he obtained a Barber License from Phelps Vocational High School, his signature cut was "close to the sides and short on the top with a part on the side". Darrell did not stop there he also attended the School of Culinary Arts, which led him to the Key Bridge Marriott in Roslyn, Virginia as their Sunday Brunch Sous Chef. He also furthered his education and became a Certified Pharmacist Assistant, in Baltimore, Maryland. Darrell accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and was baptized April 11, 1982 at the Randall Memorial United Methodist Church, by the late Rev. Julian O. Grayson. Darrell will be fondly remembered as being the life of the party, he was fun loving, jovial, humble and full of life. Family was always first, he was a protector, and had every remedy for sickness you could think of, get sick call Darrell. Though, health challenges later came in his life by way of diabetes, he faced them without faltering. You can see Darrell any time anywhere on the corner telling one of his stories that would go on forever and have you laughing to no end! Loving memories will forever be cherished by: his son Wali Darrell Washington (Chaunice); 4 grandchildren Imani, Wali Zaire, Na'Ima and Wasani; his two brothers, Savarhette, and Ulysess, (William preceded him in death); three sisters, Johnetta, Vera and Altheria Jones (Michael), (TiaJuana preceded him in death); nephews, Amir, Damazhae, Adlai, Quinard Sr., Jr., Marquis, Lamar, Tyree, Arthur, Edward and Dwayne; nieces, Emahn, India, Trinika, Twala and Ciara (Mia preceded him in death); 3 step children, Jeannie (Darnell), Yvonne (Harold), Richard (Kimberly); and their 6 children Anthony, Dionte', Christina, Johnathan, Courtney, Jasmine and 2 greatgrands Kennedi and Dionte' Jr.; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
