IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Darryl
Scribner
December 14, 1959 – March 1, 2021
DARRYL ANTHONY SCRIBNER
DECEMBER 14, 1958 - MARCH 1, 2021
The youngest of four sons, Darryl was born to Thomas Edward Scribner Sr. and Betty Louise Hawkins Scribner on December 14, 1958. God spread His arms around Darryl and called him home on March 1, 2021. Darryl is now reunited with his parents and his brother Gregory Scribner.
Darryl was born and raised in Baltimore City, MD and remained a local native until his last days of living. From growing up in Cherry Hill to creating a safe haven for himself in West Baltimore. Darryl received his formal education in the Baltimore City School Systems. He attended P.S. 88, Carroll Park Junior High and Baltimore's City's very own Edmondson High School. Raised in a Christian home, Darryl was baptized at an early age at the First Baptist Church of Elkridge.
As a child, he regularly attended Sunday School and, in the spring and summer months he was an avid "Little League" baseball player. His later pasttimes included skateboarding and swimming. Darryl loved listening to music, dancing, hanging with his friends, and of course basketball.
After graduating from Edmondson High School, Class of 1978, Darryl knew he wanted more for himself and his family. Soon after graduating Edmondson High, Darryl was inspired to go to trade school and study Culinary Arts. Upon completion he went to work as a cook at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, MD.
Darryl moved up the ranks and became a Guard. When the institution closed, he settled into his role as a Bus Driver for Maryland Transit Administration (MTA).
MTA colleagues and senior management described Darryl as "service oriented, always someone you could talk to, he never shied away from anything, he enjoyed life and his job. Most importantly, he always took ownership whenever he did wrong." He was a front-line worker, always committed to going the extra mile. While Darryl meant business, he also knew when it was time to party, Darryl later in life learned that living your best life meant just that. Darryl was a lively and energetic soul, always "stopping by" on his way to or from somewhere.
Darryl loved talking to likeminded people about potential business endeavors. Over the years, Darryl learned that bringing people together brought him happiness. Darryl was known for partnering with other businesses in hosting parties at many local places throughout Baltimore City, supporting local businesses such as Vulcan Blazers, a fraternal organization for African American Fire Fighters. He cared for others and showed his love in the many ways as he knew how.
He is survived by his daughter Jenay Scribner Brown, his son Cordaryl Gabriel Scribner: two brothers: Thomas Jr., and Brian; one sister, Wendy Turner; two sisters-in-law: Ruby and Diana; four aunts: Audrey Gibson, Barbara Alston, Carolyn Hawkins, and Willa Hawkins; four uncles: Arthur Hawkins Jr., John Gibson Sr., Paul, and James Scribner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
