Obituary

David Gathers the third son of the late Harry Sr. and Hattie Gathers,
was born on October 21, 1944 in Sumter, South Carolina. He passed
away suddenly on June 1, 2018 at his residence.

David was affectionately known as "Sonny". He attended the Public
Schools of Baltimore City. David was a 1962 graduate of Douglas
High School. He did further studies at the Baltimore City Community
College. Sonny retired from the u.S. Postal Service after 33 years of
services.

In his youth David excepted Christ as his personal savior and united
with the Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Early on in life he developed a love for business. He worked in Mr.
Gilmore's Grocery Store as a trusted employee. David went on to
become an entrepreneur in Baltimore City. He was the owner and
operator of the "Solo Variety", "Solo Hardware", and Recovery
House. He operated the store on Baltimore Street for over 30 years
only closing in 2018.

David was instrumental in getting many of his friends jobs at
Memorial Stadium selling souvenirs. He was a hard worker and
didn't mine work-mg.

He was a good son, spouse, father, grandfather, brother, cousin
and friend. He will be sorely missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Alfreda Gathers, Tenyo
Kinchen (Wilbur Johnson), Antoinette Williams (Andra Williams)
grandchildren, Ashley Tate, Ebony Cunningham (Carlos), Alexis
Rheubottom, Everette Washington and numerous great grands;
sister, Mary McCallum; brother, Philip Gathers (Frances) also a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
