David Hopkins Johnson, beloved son of the late James I. and Ruby C. Johnson, was born on July 22, 1943. He was the ninth son of twelve ch8ildren, five of whom preceded him in death. He departed this life on July 21, 2008 after a lengthy illness. David received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he sang on the chior. Later, he united with the Perkins Square Baptist Church, where he received his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. David worked at Sinai Hospital for a short period of time. He graduated from the Baltimore City Police Department Citizens Academy with a certificate of completion from the Academy. He retired as a manager of maintanence of Pickwick Apartments after seventeen years of hard work. David was what you would call a "jack of all trades." He was extremely good with his hands and could build or fix almost anything. He would always have gatherings just to be around people. Not only did he have many talents, he also knew his way around the kitchen. He was a good man with a big heart. He lived a full and happy life even through his sickness. He was a loving and adored person who will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. David's favorite songs were by Etta James. His favorite thing to do was helping other people do what they needed to. He was really a peoples' person. He leaves to cherish his memory; Jessie Johnson; daughter, Sheila Johnson; two stepdaughters, Sylvia Mayfield and Wendy Brown; three sisters, Mary Heard, Ruby Collins and Cherrise Reed; three brothers, Irwin Johnson, Abraham Johnson and John Johnson; four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, a goddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
