Obituary

Deborah Ann Moore, was born on October 5, 1954
to the late Erlene Deborah Kennedy and Loston Simpkins Sr .
in Baltimore, Maryland . She was baptized at an early age
and became a member of Mount Hebron Church on North
Avenue in Baltimore. While at Mt
. Hebron, she taught Sun-
day School and sang on the choir. Affectionately known as
Debby, she was educated within the Baltimore City Public
Schools System where she graduated from Frederick Doug-
lass High School in the Class of
1973 and later took course-
work at Towson State University. In her early adult years,
Debby was an active member at Royal Light Baptist Church
in Baltimore.

Always a hard worker, Debby's work life included time at the
Department of Defense,
11 years at the Social Security
Administration and
26 years in the Baltimore City Public
Schools System, most recently as a secretary at NACA 2
(Northwood Appold Community Academy
2) Freedom and
Democracy Academy. In January of
1981, she married the
love of her life, James
W. Moore, Jr . From that union were
two children
: James Andrew and Sean Ryan.

Debby was a highly respected member of her community
with a great thirst for knowledge and one who understood
the importance of education. Her entrepreneurial skills
helped her co-found and manage Classic Janitorial Services
Inc. with her husband
. Among her favorite pastimes, Debby
found great enjoyment in reading and poetry, singing, play-
ing cards and even archery. "Crafty" was Debby's middle
name as she could turn a piece of paper into a craft project
for any
c hild. From sewing to knitting to crocheting and
ceramics, Debby could do it all
. And , as the saying
goes
... "she could burn!" An amazing baker and cook , Debby
would prepare feasts made for a king
. From crabcakes and
stuffed shrimp to mean collard greens or coconut cake
, one
could always count on some "good eats "from Debby's
kitchen. She also enjoyed traveling, family outings and many
genres of music. And many may not know how much she loved
cartoons, horror movies and Broadway plays. At the heart of
all things, spending time with family and friends was important
to Debby who had a quick wit and was always willing to
lend a helping hand
.

Her big heart and nurturing spirit lifted many around her,
in
c luding many students she guided along the way and chil-
dren she helped raise. She would buy costumes on Halloween
or kites on Kite Day and ornaments on Christmas for many
children. Above all, Debby was well-rounded, resourceful
,
creative , and motivated with an intense love for her husband
and sons
.

Debby fought a good fight, worked hard diligently until she
departed this life on the 22nd of June. She leaves to cherish
her memory: her devoted husband, James
W. Moore Jr; her
loving children, James Andrew and Sean Ryan; siblings:
brothers, Loston (Billy) Simpkins Jr., Charles Simpkins, and
Melvin Simpkins. Two brothers preceded her in death, Eddie
Simpkins and Irvin Simpkins; one sister, Erlene Nowlin;
sisters-in-law
, Wendy Simpkins, Haroldine Simpkins, Fannie
Hardaway
, Djeneba Simpkins, Ruth A . Brown and Pamela
Moore; brothers-in-law, Andrew Moore
, Thaddeus T . Moore,
and Robert Nowlin; aunts, Lulu Mae Kennedy and Rebecca
Henley; one uncle
, Mathis Kennedy, a host of treasured
nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends and a special sister-
friend
, Marty .
