IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deborah
Shields
September 28, 1952 – September 6, 2017
Deborah Shields
affectionately known as Debbie was born in Baltimore,
Maryland on September 28, 1952 to the late Lucille Jones and Horace Leon Kees,
Sr. On Wednesday, September 6, 2017 our beloved Debbie, started her journey
home. A home that is not built with hands but whose Maker and Builder is God.
Debbie was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated
from Paul Lawrence Dunbar Senior High School in June, 1971. Immediately
upon graduating, she began her career as a Direct Care Aide at Rosewood Center.
After thirty years of devoted service, Debbie retired from Rosewood Center on
June 19, 2003.
In June of 1978, Deborah married Selwyn Shields, Sr. From this union a son,
Selwyn Shields, Jr. and a daughter, Sherri (Ducy) Shields were born.
Debbie absolutely enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved
to cook and her family and friends could attest to the fact that her meals were both
delicious and prepared with lots of love and care. Debbie was the "rock" of her
family; she was always someone that was very caring and willing to help out
whenever assistance was needed. Her caring ways led her, along with her cousin
Barry to visit and take treats weekly to the senior residents at Rosemarie Manor
Assisted Living facility, up until her untimely passing.
Debbie truly cherished spending time with her only granddaughter Selicia and
going on outings with her son Selwyn. One of her favorite places to visit was the
casinos in Baltimore. Debbie was also active in her neighborhood organization
as well.
She is survived by: her husband, Selwyn (Mitch) Shields, Sr. and her devoted and
loving son, Selwyn Shields, Jr. Her daughter, Sherri Shields, preceded her in
death. One sister, Rebecca (Becky) Thompson (the late Capers Thompson), and
one brother, Terry Jones (Dr. Edna Street-Jones). Her brothers, Horace (Leon)
Kees, Jr. and Mario Jones preceded her in death. A loving granddaughter, Selicia
Shields. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
