Obituary

Deloris Louise Byrd, daughter of the late Leroy O. and Dorothy Jones Boyer was born on Mary 28, 1932. She suddenly departed this life on October 31, 2006. Deloris was a life long resident of Baltimore City. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools, graduated from Frederick Douglass High Class of 1950. She lived in Brooklyn, New York for 4-1/2 years. Deloris attended City Community College of New York and majored in Business for 2 years. She also attended Community College of Baltimore completing courses in Travel and Real Estate. She was married to Bernard Poulson, from this union was born a handsome son, Kevin Bernard Poulson and a beautiful daughter, the late Karen Poulson. Deloris later met the love of her life Augustus Gus Byrd and they were joined in Holy matrimony on October 31, 1965. The couple wss happily married for forty-one years. She was a member of the New Shiloh Baptist Church since May, 1996. Deloris was always praising God daily for her many blessings . Deloris was a very dedicated person in her home, at work, in the church and in the community. She enjoyed helping others and being around people. Servicing others personified her life. She had worked for serveral government agencies. She was employed for 15 years at Social Security Administration and the Baltimore City Department of Social Servics where she held various administrative positions before retiring in July, 1998 after 27 years. Deloris re-entered State servics as a contractual employee for the Division of Vital Records until her passing. Deloris was fondly known as Dee was a phenomenal woman. Her ability to communicate with others was extraordinary. She greeted everyone with a bright welcoming smile and jolly laughter that warm your heart. She was truly devoted to her family and her many friends. she was an open-minded, caring, nuturing person with a free loving spirit. Through the years God endowed her with wisdom, perseverance, compassion and strength. Deloris had such a love for people and life. She would share freely and unconditionaly all that she had. She touched som many lives knowningly and unknowingly. She was always ready and willing to do all she could to help. Dee had a passion for the Bird of Paradise flower, elephants and loved to travel. Deloris was a Charter Member, Past President twice, recorder/correspondence secretary, treasurer and chairperson of several committee of the Zeta Amicae of Greater Baltimore Auxiliary. She held several offices including State of Maryland Amicae President and Atlantic Regional Amicae recording secretary. She volunteered for the Mentoring Male Teens in the Hood and as a Board Member. Deloris received several Awards, including Employee of the year from BCDSS, and twice Zeta Amicae of the Year for the Zeta Amicae of Greater Baltimore Auxiliary. Deloris leaves to mourn: her loving devoted husband, Augustus Byrd, one son, Kevin Bernard Poulson, brother, Andre Boyer, and a uncle, Earl Barnes, sister-in-law, Mary V. Anderson, brother-in-law, Horace Byrd, goddaughter, adopted daughter, Elaine Mitchell and host of loving relatives and friends.
