Derek L
Marshall
Dec 28, 1967 — Sep 14, 2026
Baltimore
Derek Marshall was a man who loved life, cherished his family, and made lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was known for his vibrant personality, his love of people, and his ability to make those around him feel his presence. Derek understood from an early age the importance of family, and family remained at the center of his world throughout his entire life. Born to Gladys McNeal and Glenn Marshall on December 28, 1967, Derek made his earthly transition to his heavenly home on Monday, September 14, 2026.
On September 14, 1991, Derek married the love of his life, Terri Marshall. Together, they built a life filled with love, commitment, laughter, and family. They raised their two children, Kortney and Derek "DJ" Marshall, surrounding them with love and providing a strong foundation. Terri stood faithfully by Derek's side at every turn. Throughout his health journey, she was more than his wife—she was his advocate, his source of strength, and his unwavering supporter.
The significance of September 14 will forever hold a special place in their family's hearts. It was the day Derek and Terri began their journey as husband and wife, and 35 years later, it became the day they said goodbye.
Derek treasured his children, Kortney and DJ, with all his heart. They meant everything to him. He was a loving and devoted father who celebrated their accomplishments, stood beside them through challenges, and made sure they always knew they could count on their dad. Derek was also a devoted grandfather who cherished Kiyan, Jeno, and Aniyah; they brought him immeasurable joy.
A proud Baltimorean, Derek got his early education in the Baltimore City Public school system (Guilford Elementary, Roland Park) and graduated from Mervo High School in 1985. At Mervo, Derek participated in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program where he became a skilled electrician. During his career, he worked with Silver Black Electric, Automatic Operators, Perimeter Security, Entry Control Systems, and K&K Electric. Beyond electrical work, Derek was a master craftsman who could fix anything—he took immense pride in being someone his loved ones could always depend upon.
Derek had a distinctive sense of style and took great pride in his appearance. He dressed impeccably and always made sure he looked his best. His confidence and attention to detail commanded respect whenever he walked into a room. Music was equally central to his spirit—he had a special love for house music, the energy of a great beat, and dancing the night away surrounded by family and good friends.
Derek accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized as a young man. His faith was an important part of his life, and he joined Mount Pleasant Church & Ministries on January 27, 2002. His faith provided him with strength throughout his life and especially during his health journey.
