Obituary

Diane Hemphill daughter of the late Alice Cherry and Ernest Lee was born February 28,1955 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on February 8, 2018.

Diane grew up on Whatcoat Street in West Baltimore. Diane lost her mother at a young age, so her grandmother Susie Cherry stepped in to raise Diane and her older siblings, Marvin and Sheila.

Diane was educated in the Baltimore City 'Public School System and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1974. She first met her soulmate, Anthony Hemphill, in the mid 1960's. Their journey over the years, led them to unite in marriage on June 6, 1990. Anthony helped raise Diane's only son, and her sister Sheila's son, whom she took care of after Sheila passed away. Early in her career Diane worked for General Motors, she did private nursing aide duty, and a few other odd jobs before planting her feet with Humanim. She was a dedicated employee at the Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles for over 25 years, until recently, when her health prevented her return.

Ask any of her closest friends and family, and they will tell you that Diane took care of everyone! At a little over 5 feet tall, she was tough, but she had a nurturing spirit. She nursed some family members back to health and even provided some with comfort and care in their final days. She would often open her home to many of her friends and family when they needed a place to stay. If you had rent, she had a room! Diane loved to shop, entertain at family gatherings, and prepare large family meals.

You cannot deny her love for the many dogs she kept over the years. After a hard week at work, all Diane needed to unwind was an old school tune, a cold beer and her cigarettes.

She leaves to mourn: husband, Anthony Hemphill; son, Larry Fox, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Leslie Fox; step-sons, Dane Hemphill and Mark Hemphill; grandchildren, Tavon White- head, Jaidyn Fox, India Fox, Lauren Fox, Crystal Fox, and Caleel Fox; brother-in-laws, Fred Hemphill and Samuel Wil- liams; sister-in-laws, Loretta (Doug) Johnson and Rosa Hemp- hill; nieces Tamara Lee, Tria Lee, Monica Pearson, Janine Williams, Anne Marie Butts, and Rosalyn Hemphill; nephews, Michael Walker, Rodney Hemphill, and Reginald Hemphill; aunt, Betty Jean Jordan; cousins, Mandy Knight Anthony, and Luther Knight; close friends, Rosemary Cook, Anna Green, Ann Commander-Wallace, and Norman Fleet; along with a host of other relatives and friends in Maryland and North Carolina.
