Dolly Jane Bowens was born on January 10, 1949 in Horry, South Carolina to the late Harry
Grissett and Dorothy Bowens. She departed her life on February 10,2017, under the care of
Cilchrest Hospice at Pikesville, Rehavalilitaiton and Skilled nursing where she had been residing
for several years due to a stroke. Dolly received her early education in the Horry County public
school system in Horry, South Carolina.
In her early years growing up in South Carolina, she lived on Atlanta Beach, South Carolina with
her aunt Lillie Mae. Dolly loved to listen to music and dancing, she would often sneak to the juke
joint across the road from her aunts house. During this time she meets David (Boot) Brown.
Dolly later relocated to Baltimore, Md. with Boot, she went on to work at Graphic Arts printing,
John D. Lucas Printing for years, then Cenvoe Printing Co. until she retired from the workforce in
2010, after many years of service.
Dolly loved life, her family and her friends. To know Dolly Jane was to love her. She loved to
spend time with her family near or far. Many summers and some holidays Dolly and Boot would
load up the family and travel to South Carolina to spend time with her family.
Dolly loved to cook for her family and friends. She loved sitting outside on those warm summer
days listening to music and socializing with the neighbors. She loved spending time with her
grand children, her girlfriends ( co workers) that were more like family. Dolly touch so many with
her smile, heart and love.
Throughout her time at Envoy of Pikesville, she was blessed with the love, care and support of her
family and friends, such as her cousin Ivy Pattern, who she loved like a sister, her devoted son
Carlo and daughter Vanessa.
Proceeding her in death, David Brown(husband),Terrell Grissett (son), Judy Waters(sister). Dolly
touched so many lives and leaves to cherish her memory her children Vanessa Dancy, Kenneth
(Paula) Grissett; Antwan (Yvette) Grissett; Carlo(Alicia)Grissett; and Sumika Grissett. She is
survived by sisters Monique (Clayton)Oliver of Baltimore; Angela (Freddie)Cummings of
Lawrenceville, GA.; Angie Grissett of Compton, CA.; Shirley Days of Conway, SC.; Patricia
(purnell) Friday; of Conway,SC; Judy Miller of SC.; Diana Bowens of SC.; Jessie Mae Singleton
of Baltimore. Brothers: Frankie (pam) Bowens ofConway,SC. and Ronald Grissett of New
Haven, CT. grandchildren: Chanel Grissett; Carlo Grissett Jr.; Keyonae Grissett; Kenneth Grissett
Jr.; Kemeka Grissett; and Kennedie Grissett. Great grand son Keshawn. Four uncles Larry;
Henry; John Lee and Nick. Four aunts Lillie Mae; Ruth; Jealay Mae; Ella and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, family and friends.
