Obituary

On Thursday, March 27, 2008 an angel came to the bedside of Donald Slyvester Seymour and whispered, ''Come with me, your task is done here on earth. What is not completed I'll do the rest. You rated one hundred on your test, and I know you did your very best.'' He said your place is ready in Heaven far above, and you will have to leave all that you dearly loved. He took his hand and said I am taking you to a better land. DONALD SLYVESTER SEYMOUR was born on April 19, 1934 in St. Mary, Jamaica to the late Rhona and James Strachan. He was a joy to his parents and a wonderful older brother that his siblings adored. He attended St. Mary High School. After graduation, he became a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force as a police officer and he served his country well. He was one of their finest, and he had many awards to prove that. He met the love of his life, his friend, his soulmate, his wife Ivy in Kingston, Jamaica. They were married in 1970. He migrated to the United States in 1970, and for thirty-eight years they made Baltimore their home. Together they raised a loving family of six children. His daughter Megan preceded him in death. He worked at the Patuxent State Institution for twenty years, retiring on March 1, 1998. He was very passionate about his job. He also had a passion for the finer things in life, and that's evident by looking at his wife. He enjoyed gourmet cooking , jazz, and all types of instrumental music. His favorite instruments were the saxophone and the guitar. He not only played those instruments, he was also a gifted singer. His wife is blushing now remembering the many times she was serenaded by him. He has played his last song, he has exited the stage, the curtain has been closed. He now sings and plays with the heavenly choir. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife and forever friend, Ivy; daughter, Clair; sons, James, Ian, Courtney and David; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Ivy Thompson, Pearline King, Ena Hayes, Claudette Laing, Gloria Strachan and Shirley Strachen; brothers, Lewin and Auclett Strachan; sister-in-law, Veronica Byfield; brother-in-law, Loren Davis Joyce Davis; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives to mourn his passing. His memory will always be treasured.
