DONELL AVERY SR. (aka U-Turn) went home to be with the Lord on August 22, 2014 at University Hospital in Baltimore MD. Donell Avery Sr., son of the late George and Helen Martin, was born May 16, 1949. Donell attended Southern High School where he received his high school diploma. After graduating he went to work for J.E. Smith Box Company, then Henry Steele. In 1985 he started working for the Department of Defense until he departed this life. During this time he was loved and respected by everyone he touched. Donell was a praying man, he prayed for and with you whenever the occasion would arise. Donell devoted his life to the Lord in 1976 under the leadership of Reverend Willie R Burgess Sr. He enjoyed traveling, church conventions and praising the name of the Lord. Donell served on the Board of Trustees and as Deacon of the church. He served in the Breakthrough Breakfast Ministry every Saturday ministering and praying for those in need. Other duties such as Sunday School Leader, Sunday School Superintendant and Financial Secretary of the Trustee Board. Donell was very supportive financially and spiritually in Kingdom building. Donell's life was truly a testimony of dedicated service. He always donated school supplies for the back to school program. He was instrumental in renovating the coat room into an office for the trustee board. Prior to his transition his goal was to renovate the pastor's office and his wife would like to continue this project with the help of the church. Donell is survived by: his wife, Betty (Juanita) Avery; three sons, Antoine Johnson, Donell Avery [r., and Brandon Avery of Balto., MD; one daughter- in-law, Crystal Avery; four grandchildren, Corey Johnson, London Avery, Brayden Avery and Nehemiah Rhodes; two great-grandchildren, Zion and Kourtney Johnson; three brothers, George, Herbert, and Robert Martin; three sisters, Denise Brown, Mary Towns, and Antoinette Christian; nine brothers-in-law; James Brown, James Christian, Andre Towns, William, Henry, Edward, George Luckey, Nathaniel Baker and James McKay; six sisters-in-law, Victoria and Jane Martin, Diane McKay, Willanette, Betty and Mary Luckey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
