Obituary

DONNA MARIA VICKERS, daughter of the late Donald and Shirley May Holman, was born January 14, 1958. She departed this life on January 4, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Western High School. Upon graduation, Donna went on to work for major corporations such as USF&G, RM&D, Total Health Care, as well as the State of Maryland and Kennedy Krieger. At an early age Donna accepted Christ and joined the St. Martin Church where she was baptized and received her first holy communion. "Papoose," as she was affectionately called by many, had a flair for fashion that she inherited from her mother Shirley May. Very rarely was she seen in a pair of sneakers. She commuted from Baltimore to DC throughout the time she worked for USF&G and RM&D. It was during this commute her love for the Japanese Cherry Blossom tree was established. Her favorite flower was the tulip. She was a lover of music, in particular the soulful voice of Anita Baker. Donna could talk! When telling stories you would have to instruct her to give the short version not the Wikipedia version, to quote her brother Chris. And Drama! She could give an emotionally charged, drama filled story that would rival any award winning soap star. She loved people, young and old alike, and could make a friend wherever she went. She always had an encouraging word, even during times when she may have been short on optimism for herself. Donna is preceded in death by her father, Donald Holman; her mother, Shirley May Holman; her beloved aunts, Elaine Simmons and Edith "Sweety" Meredith. She is survived by: her grandmother, Edith Ricks; daughter, Damare Andrea Murphy; son, Troy Nathaniel Cooper; son-in-law, Kevin Murphy; three grandchildren, Kayla Allen, Taylor Allen and Joshua Murphy; brother, Charles "Chris" Babb; four aunts, Irene Jones, Corrine Jackson, Doris Harris and Aunt Mary; uncle, Gilmore Meredith [r.; a mother figure, Margaret Pailin; and a host of loving cousins, other relatives, and friends.
