Dora Alston (nee Holmes) was born on April 22, 1921 to the
late James "Jimmy" and Janie Holmes in Sumter, South
Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on November 14,
2015.
Dora loved school and loved to learn. She received her
primary and secondary education, but fell in love with, and
wed before she could earn her high school diploma. Her love
of cooking led her to work'as a cook at a local Baptist school
until her retirement.
She married her best friend and high school sweetheart,
Joseph "Bo" Alston, Sr. in Rembert, South Carolina. Shortly
after their union, Dora followed her husband to Maryland for
his job on the railroad where he worked until his retirement.
From a very young age, Dora loved the Lord, and she joined
the Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church under the late
Bishop Willard E. Saunders, Sr. She served diligently in
many ministries, and was an active member of the Mother's
Board until she was prevented by her illness.
Dora loved knitting and traveling. She loved quiet time
with the Lord and reading any passage from the Book of
Psalms. She was kind-hearted and soft-spoken, but had a
quick wit and sense of humor. She often imparted her
wisdom to the young women teaching them to be virtuous
women, submissive wives and nurturing mothers.

daughter, Audrey James (Brian); a host of nieces and neph-
ews; goddaughter; Patricia Bishop; and friend, Octavia Saun-
