IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy G.
Scott
April 3, 1948 – April 12, 2019
Dorothy Gladys Turpin-Scott, daughter of the late George and Vera Turpin,
Jr., was born on April 3, 1948 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a lengthy,
hard-fought battle with cancer, she won her peace on April 12, 2019.
Ms. Scott received her education in Baltimore City Public Schools. After
graduating from Dunbar Senior High, she demonstrated her natural leader-
ship abilities in several local agencies and organizations throughout her
professional career. But it all came full circle when she became a program
aide for Living Classrooms' POWER House which is nestled in the heart of
her beloved Perkins Community Homes.
Despite her numerous awards, citations and honors, Ms. Scott will be
remembered for how she fed those she loved; not just with her amazing
cooking, but with her food for thought: whether through a heartfelt one-to-
one, a few witty one-liners or a hard truth or two, all that she said was
unforgettable.
Ms. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, George Samuel and Vera
Julia Turpin, Jr.; a sister, Delores Maxine Turpin; a brother, George Samuel
Turpin, III; and son, Derrick Andre Turpin a.k.a. her Baldy.
She leaves to mourn: one granddaughter, Brittany Nichelle Turpin; two
nieces, Denise and Sherrell; three nephews, Terrell, Jerrell, and Derrell;
cousins Vera James, Marie "Carol" Braxton, Karen Braxton, Brenda Tyson,
and Ella Davis; three godchildren, Kenny "Dr. Phil" Liner, Fontella Robin-
son, and Nichole Dorsey-Robinson; her special girlfriends, Vernetta "Sissy"
Brown and Mamie Colt; oldest friends, Gloria and Cecil; her work-family,
and a host of relatives, friends and acquaintances.
