Givens
September 13, 1944 – March 16, 2019
Dorothy Goins Givens was born September 13, 1944, in Richland County, South
Carolina to the late Mary Jane and Leroy Goins. She was the sixth of seven
children. On Saturday March 16,2019, God saw fit to call Dorothy home.
In 1951 she and her family moved to Baltimore, where she attended and graduated
from Carver Vocational Technical High. She later pursued a career in nursing and
worked as an LPN.
While pursuing her nursing degree, she met Charles Earl Givens and the two were
married on February 5, 1972. To this union was born, the joy of her life, Eamon
Doyle Givens on May 14, 1979. The two were married for 47 years and remained
married until her death.
During the early 1970's, Dorothy along with her husband Charles established DG
Transportation, a school bus company which provided transportation for students
to Baltimore City Public Schools, which was the largest school bus company in
Baltimore City. Dorothy loved working for DG Transport and under her manage-
ment the business flourished.
At an early age Dorothy accepted Christ and joined St. Phillips Baptist Church
where she served as a member of the choir. In 1981 she joined First Abyssinia
Baptist Church.
Dorothy loved to entertain and was known for being very outspoken. In her spare
time, she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, traveling and working in her garden.
Dorothy was preceded in death by three of her siblings, Timothy Goins, Doretha
Lee and Rose Mae Snowden.
She leaves to cherish her memory; husband Charles, her son Eamon and daughter
in law Lakeisha, 9 grandchildren; Stephen, Imoni, Khiya, Kamari, Jabari, Eamon
Jr (Ej), Jordyn, Eadyn and Savion; 3 sisters, Lula Harper, Pearl Perry and Margaret
Berry, one special cousin Laurie Simpson, several nieces and nephews and a host
of other relatives, and friends.
