Obituary

DORSEY ALPHONSE SKINNER, SR. was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 30, 1937 to loving parents, George Lawrence, Sr. and Mary Virginia Robinson Skinner. This expression of life ended on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Dorsey was predeceased by a brother, George Jr. and sister, Mary Virginia Skinner Nelson. Dorsey received his grade school education through the Saint Peter Claver Catholic School System. Later transferring to Frederick Douglass High School, graduating in 1953. As a young man, he was employed by Maran Printing Co. as a truck driver. This was interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army. Dorsey was honorably discharged in 1962. Returning home he gained employment with the United States Postal Service and retired in 2000. Dorsey was a life member of Saint Peter Claver Catholic Church, where he faithfully attended and served as an usher and mentor. For over twelve years, he was an active member of the American Legion Federal Post #19 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Post was his last outing. Dorsey spent countless hours enjoying sports of all kinds. He was indeed a sports enthusiast. Dorsey leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Dorsey A. Skinner, Jr. and Bernard Burrell; daughter, Charlotte T. Skinner; stepdaughters, Neasiel and Carolotta Moses; devoted sister, Charlotte Bennett; daughter-in-law, Vera A. Hall-Skinner; granddaughters, Taylor and Lindsey Skinner; grandson, Blake Berry; nephew, George Parker Marilyn of California; nieces, Bonnie of Philadelphia and Yolanda of Atlanta, Georgia; many great-nieces and -nephews; longtime friends, Mickey Taylor, Milton Branch and Arnold Breckenridge; first wife, Gloria Nelson mother of Dorsey Jr. and last wife, Carolyn Skinner Blount mother of Charlotte; and a host of other relatives and friends. My times are in Thy hands; My God, I wish them there, My life, my family, my soul I leave entirely to Thy care.
