DOROTHY ANN THORNTON-HAYES, daughter of the late Rosa Scott and Isaiah Williams, was born on February 6, 1940 in Raleigh, North Carolina. She departed this life on September 24, 2013 after a sudden illness. Dorothy came to Baltimore, Maryland in the forties and received her education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She married Charles Thornton and out of this union twelve children were born. She later married Gilbert Hayes who also preceded her in death. Dorothy, affectionately known as "Dot," was loved by all who she came in contact with. Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, all ninety-eight of them. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking for her family, playing cards, celebrating the holidays and going to the casino with her friends Judy and Mary. "Dot" "Grandma" or "Mom," as she was called, will be missed dearly by everyone who knew her. Dorothy Ann Thornton-Hayes leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Charles, Delores, Demetria, Darryl, Antonio, Dwayne, Charlene, Karen, Rose and Kimberly (two sons preceded her in death, Christopher and Robert, also two of her favorite grandsons, Marcal and Samuel); forty-nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-greatgrandchildren; also three stepchildren/ Valerie, Keith and Wanda; one sister, May (brother Willie Bullock preceded her in death); and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Ann and Catherine; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
