Douglass Gray Washington was born to the late Arnett and Margaret Washington on October 25,1943, He made his final transition surrounded by loved ones on June 27, 2024, at the age of 80. Douglass was the youngest of 11 children. He graduated from Carver Vocational School in Baltimore in June of 1965, where he specialized in carpentry. After graduation, Douglass was drafted into the US Army in 1966 where he served honorably.
After leaving military service he began his career with the Housing Authority of Baltimore City as a maintenance mechanic. He retired from HABC in 2002. During his retirement he frequently volunteered his time mentoring and providing community service to his community through the Fulton Heights Community association, and helping and teaching his trade and love of plants with his grandson William's boy scout troop.
He leaves to mourn his wife Barbara Washington, children Bryant Purnell, Amanda Washington and Julian Washington, grandchildren William Barnett and Arie Washington, brother Davis Washington, sister and brother-in-law Melva and William Thompson, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Additionally, he leaves his best friend Stephen Ward, a host of friends, associates and neighbors to mourn as well.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Margaret Lee, Hilda, Janet, Harriet, Ruth Ann, Omega, Audrey and Delano.
