Obituary

Earl Benjamin Gross, son of the late Aaron H. Gross Sr. and Es- telle Williams, was born on February 24, 1922 in South Baltimore, Mary- land. He departed this life on April 13, 2014. Ben received his education in the Baltimore City Public School Sys- tem. At the age of 19, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) , a job training program that was developed during President Roosevelt "New Deal". He trained in the CCC from July 18, 1939 and was honorable discharged June 13, 1941. Ben was employed by the Southern Steel Salvage Company, Revere Brass Mill, Inc. and Baltimore Jewish Time Magazine. Additionally, he held several handyman positions. Ben married the former Helen M Wilson on July 1, 1947. She affec- tionately called him "Earl B. s r His devotion to his wife continued for 66 loving years. Ben was a lifelong member of Shiloh Christian Community Church, Baltimore, Maryland. There he served on the Men's Choir and as a Deacon. Ben loved the Lord and often reminded others of how good God had been to him. Ben made friends easily and often wherever he went. Many lifetime friends remained in constant contact. His neighborhood friends will miss his shuffling across the street, his hardy hand shake, sharing his loose change and sharing his love for the Lord with them. If anyone would just say one word to him, a "hi" or "hello ", he gave you a good word from the Lord to fill your day. His greatest love was singing for the Lord. He had a beautiful singing voice. Among his favorite songs were: Mahalia Jackson's, "Trouble of the World, Whitney Houston's, "I Love the Lord" and Roy Hamilton, "You'll Never Walk Alone. " Ben was a gifted songwriter and had written several songs that he often shared with his family and friends. When walking by his home, you could often hear him doing a personal concert. Ben is the last of the Gross men. Five brothers preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn: his wife, Helen M. Gross; one sister, Thelma Herren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and his devoted and day- today caregiver, Roosevelt Fortner. t Viewing Joseph H.
