Earl Sullivan Roy was born on February 23, 1948 in Baltimore, MD to the late James Frienzy Roy and Mary Gertrude Roy. He was the seventh of nine children, of which two preceded him in death, James Junior Roy and Mary Lavern Cornish. Earl departed this life on December 30, 2020 after a long illness. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, Yvonne Roy and loving family members.

Earl was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and attended Carver Vocational Technical School where he majored in carpentry and woodwork. After several years of construction work, he was later employed by Baltimore City Department of Housing. There, he was able to use his carpentry and plumbing skills to refurbish old houses into family dwellings.

On November 14, 1973, Earl became the proud father of Earl Sullivan Roy Jr. In 1986, Earl married the love of his life, Yvonne Jenifer. From this union a loving family was formed. They shared 34 years of marriage, raising a family together until his death.

Earl loved to work with his hands. He built things that gave a personal touch to his community. With his hands; he fixed bikes, bee stings, bruises, sandwiches and broken radios that gave us sunshine on a cloudy day. Earl was known for his great sense of humor and funny stories. You couldn't be around him without laughing at something he said or just having a good time being in his presence. He was a great man and will be truly missed.

Earl leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife Yvonne Roy; children Earl S. Roy Jr., Joseph Jenifer, Michelle Vessells and Tiffany Wingate; a devoted brother Nathaniel F. Roy (Lula Mae); sisters Elanor Hubbard, Naomi Smith, Clarine Harvey, Aldine Patterson (Ulys) and Osig Roy -Moore; a host of nieces, (four preceded him in death) nephews, (two preceded him in death); grandchildren Nevaeh and Nakyra Roy, Nicole, Mayon, Amanda, Michael, Amia, Jameirra, Mark, Oneeka and Morgan; great-grandchildren Janiah, Jarrod, John, Autumn, Penelope and Andiylnn; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
