Obituary

Eddie Leon Bell, was born July 13, 1940 in Franklin County, North Carolina to the late Norris Thomas and Elizabeth Bettie Bell. Early in his life, Eddie's mother Elizabeth Bettie Bell married the late Ulysses Avent and the couple embraced Eddie with their love raising him along with nine siblings, he was the second oldest. Eddie peacefully departed this life after an illness on Friday, August 16, 2013. Bobby, as he was affectionately called received his education in the Nash County, NC school system where he attended The Castalia School. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior early in life and baptized at the Castalia Baptist Church. Bobby's passion was to operate the John Deere tractor on their family farm harvesting crops. Bobby had a special relationship with his older brother Joe Bell; they enjoyed working together on the farm. The family migrated to Baltimore, Maryland where Bobby's passion for driving trucks and tractor trailers began. He had many jobs over the years as a local and overnight driver; such as High's Ice Cream and Luskins. After leaving Luskins, he was employed at Overnight Transportation | now known as UPS, starting off as a long distance truck driver but due to illness in 1978 he could no longer drive on the road; therefore he became a Yard Jockey. After 25 years of dedicated service, he retired. During retirement he volunteered unloading food trucks for Faith United Baptist Church. Bobby also known as "Snag" was famous for his fried potatoes, making his family laugh with his jokes and quotes. Snag loved wrestling, baseball, football, bowling and shooting pool. He enjoyed going to the race track with his brothers and nephews. He loved eating soul food especially North Carolina styled BBQ. Bobby was an excellent father and grandfather, there was nothing he wouldn't do for them. Eddie was preceded in death by his son Terry Driver and a special friend Joan McAllister. He leaves to cherish his memory his four loving daughters, Marlene Bell, Tonya Bell-Johnson (Stewart), Annazette Bell-Smoot (Sean) and Zatella Bell-Allen; ten grandchildren, Carlisha, Shamia, Tearra, Brandon, Demetrio, D'Asia, D'Sean, Tyler, Torrell and Valaun; four great grandchildren; six brothers, Joseph Bell (Anita), Ulysses Avent Jr., Gregory Avent (Joan), Michael Avent, Horace Avent (Gloria) and Kennedy Avent; three sisters, Glennie Moyd (Melvin), H.
