Edith Doretta Dyson (Johnson) was
born to Gertrude Johnson and the late
Lewis Johnson on December 20, 1949,
in Buckingham County, Virginia. Sur.
rounded by her loved ones, she was
called home to her eternal rest on May
16, 2022.
In 2013, Edith accepted Jesus Christ as
her Lord and Savior and was baptized at
the New Creation Christian Church in
Baltimore. She also served as an usher
there for a periodof time.
Edith received her education in Virginia's Buckingham County school system. After her relocation to Balti
more she later received her General Education Diploma and attended the BaltimoreCity Community College
where she especially enjoyed the science classes. She encouraged her children to pursue Higher Education.
Afterdevoting herself toraising her children, she became employed at the Hedwin Corporation and retired on
July 27, 2012 after 23 years of employment.
An avid cook, with specialties of fried hard stuffed crabs and cornbread dressing. Edith loved to eat and particularly enjoyed a meal of pig's feet, chitterlings, fried chicken, and collard greens. On Thanksgiving Day, after
cooking for nearly a week, she sat down early and enjoyed her meal cooked from scratch, waiting for no one.
She also enjoyed music and dancing. Bob Marley was one of her favorite artists. In addition, she enjoyed
crossword puzzles, home gardening and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
As a young child, Edith's favorite memory is gardening with her grandmother, Eliza Chambers, in Buckingham
County. In later life, her fondest memories were marrying her husband, Larry, and attending the birth of her
grandchildren, Jasmine and Daeshia.
Edith enjoyed life and was full of joy after obtaining sobriety. Often, she would strut to the front of meetings
and read literature in a dramatic way that had everyone in the room laughing. Edith will always be remembered
for being kind hearted and caring. She would help anyone in need and often expressed concern for loved ones
and friends of her children. Her smile and politeness endured even when she was not feeling her best.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Dyson, father, Lewis Johnson, her son Anthony Randall,
her brothers, Roland Johnson and John Lewis Johnson, sisters-in-law Margie Simpson and Hilda Eady, and
brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Taylor and Joseph Payne.
Edith is survived by her mother, Missionary Gertrude Johnson and daughters, Dynshia, Dionne, Minister
Laketa, and Darlyn. Also remaining to share her legacy of love are six grandchildren, Jasmine, Daeshia,
Storie, Kaori, Marli and Yolanda and one great-grandson, Daylen. She leaves behind two brothers, Pernell
Johnson and Antonio Miles, one sister, Yvette Hull, one sister-in-law. Marie Johnson, and one brother-in-law,
Leroy Funn. A special cousin, Delores Green, two goddaughters, Thevella Thomas and Genai Moore, a god-
brother, Larry Taylor, lifelong friend and niece, Brenda Eady and friends Mevelyn Stewart and Stanley Madison
also survive. She leaves behind her nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends as well as a close friend,
Paul McNeil. The Brune Street family was also near and dear to her heart.
