Effie OliviaFord,daughter ofthelate JeffDavid and Marie Thomas was bom onFebruary07, 1939 inRoxboro, North Carolina.Shedeparted this lifeon May 31, 2020after a sudden illness.She issurvivedbyher sisterMrs. LucyHamlett(Samuel) andsister Ella LouiseThomas,bothers,Mr.GarlandThomas(Geraldine),Mr. Edward Thomas(Faye),allofRoxboro, NorthCarolinaand Mr.Andrew Thomas (Wilheimina) andsisters-in-law,Mrs. Jean Thomas(Alexander) ofDurham,NorthCarolina and Mrs. Martha Thomas(Roderick) of Baltimore,MD. Also, she was the aunt "Livi" tomanynieces andnephewsandgreat niecesandgreatnephews.
Shereceived her early educationin thePerson County PublicSchool SysteminNC. Upongraduatingfromhigh schoolfamilyencouraged herto come toBaltimoreto livewith her late sister and brotherin law,Eldoradoand JamesThorpein the early 60 's. Soonafter her arrivalshe foundemploymentat SinaiHospitalinEastBaltimore. Shestayed a loyal employeeforover40 years. Whileworking at SinaiHospital sheworked in the children's unitandoutpatient clinicsand wasassignedtobe asupportstafftoseveral specialty clinics like surgicaland teen OB/GYN.After retiringfromSinai Hospital, she wouldgo on to seekemployment at CharlestownRetirementCommunity where she continuedto work foranother17 years.While atCharlestownRetirement Communityshe would go on toreceive recognition for beingan outstanding staff member forwhich shereceived severalawards forher outstandingwork.Before retiringfromCharlestown RetirementCommunity, she was asked to workwith the late formerGov. Donald Schafer.
Effie is survived by her only daughter,MonicaDeniseFord, andthe family rescuecat, Sophy.Many of her friendshaveoftencommented on howmuch she loved her daughter.Allher daughter'sfriends always asked about Ms.Effie andknewoftheclose bond that they shared.
Sheleavestomourn her a host ofaunts,uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews' greatnieces,great nephewsandfriendsfrom around the region.
Effie had a great love of growingflowers andgardening vegetablesin her back yard. She was an avidreaderandpreferredto go andbuy a bag of booksfrom the thriftstore, rather than readingfromher E-Reader.Shealso lovedtotravel, but herfavoritethingto do wasrelaxingatthe beach. Effie picked her friends likethe flowers she grew;theyeachhave a specialandunique beautyandtheyeach hadaspecial bondwithher. She alsoloved the many friends madeatchurch.So, when it came to herfaithyoumightask,whatwasher religion?Asa childsheattendedtwo communitychurches. After all her father, the deacon, hadatleast three brothersthat were ministers. So,you might sayshe wasa Holiness / Baptistin NC. Then when she moved toBaltimore, she became a Baptist, Apostolic,AME,ChristianCommunity childofGod.Although she cametoknowtheLordat anearlyage, shelearnedthat the greatestmandatewas toserve othersand sheserved othersallher lifeand was loved by allwhoknew her.
