Obituary

Eleanor Woods Peterson, affectionately known as "NaNa" was born on April 9, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the eldest girl of five siblings born to Frederick and Lillian Woods. After a short and courageous battle with her illness, God called her horne to glory on January 30, 2015. Eleanor attended Baltimore City Public Schools and shortly after graduation married Hilliard Peterson. She went on to work at Fort Mead Military Base in the Environmental Services Department and later at McDonough School in the Custodial Department. Eleanor spent her retirement as a Baltimore City Foster Parent. She felt strongly about keeping siblings together, rather than being divided in the system. Eleanor was a devoted and faithful member of First Charity Baptist Church for many years where she sang on the Senior Choir. Eleanor loved her church family and nurtured many friendships from her time there. Eleanor was a strong feisty woman, who loved her family. More than loving her family, Eleanor loved Baskin Robbins ice cream, and if you were coming to her house, you had to bring her some. Vanilla specifically but she would settle for butter pecan. She enjoyed food as well but especially sweets. When she was mobile, Eleanor loved to be fashionably dressed and drive to visit family and friends. On Sunday's, after church, she would come pass and blow her horn until you came outside, and if you were not home she would leave her calling card; which was peanut shells in your door so you would know she'd been there. She had such a great sense of humor, and always a snappy comeback to make you laugh. You could always count on a long phone call from her, although, her intentions were not to call you. Eleanor was preceded in death by: her parents, Frederick and Lillian Woods; one brother, Jerome Peterson; two grandchildren, Dennis Drake Jr. and Monique Peterson and one nephew, Nathaniel Woods. Eleanor leaves to cherish: two sisters, Dorothy Woods and Jeanette Pridgen; one brother, Daniel Woods; four children, McKinley Peterson (Deborah), Barbara Drake (friend Robert), Charlene Brooks (Marvin) and Jacqueline Laster (Herbert); nine grandchildren, Olen "Marco" McCardell (Renae), Latonnia Peterson Lee, Tracey Drake, Vernon Peterson (Victoria), Letitia Peterson-Barnette, Monica Ellis, Dontrey Laster, Herbert Laster, and Dominic Laster; seventeen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, two lifelong friends, Celestine Johnson and Dolly Williams.
