Obituary

Elijah Ragin was born February 17, 1917 to the union of James Tossie Ragin & Ellen Weathers Ragin. He was the sixth of seven children, Sarah Jones, Susanna Black, Wesley Ragin, David Levi Ragin, James Arthur Ragin and Jonnie Ragin who have all preceded him in death. On September 29, 2009, Elijah left his earthly home to join many friends and loved ones in God's Kingdom. Elijah was a kind and generous man who possessed a talent for making people laugh. He was a fun loving individual who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Elijah married Corrine Pearson in spring of 1942. This union was blessed with five children. As he watched his wife teach their children to read and write, he realized the importance of an education. He then attened night school at the Harvey Johnson Junior High School in South Baltimore, where he learned to read and write. Elijah was very passionate about baseball. During the summer, he would play baseball in the back yard with his children and kids from the neighborhood. He alsotook the children to live Orioles games at Memorial Stadium. He was a die- hard Orioles fan. Elijah was an excellent dad and a good provider. He worked for the B&O Railroad for thirteen years, until they went out of business. He later worked for the steamship trade, where he retired in 1979. His fond memories will live on through his five children, Jessie Cain, Marjorie Robinson, Johnny Mae Johnson, Maxine R. Stokes and Richard Ragin whom preceded him in death and John Edward Ragin, thirteen grandchildren, forteen great grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
