Obituary

ELIZABETH MARIE CHANEY, daughter of the late Elijah Palmer and

The late Emily Palmer, was born on June 3, 1919 in Halifax, Virginia. She

departed this life on January 13, 2022.

Elizabeth, also known by some as Bette, received her education in the

Halifax Public School System.

She attended The Elkhorn Baptist Church when she lived in Halifax.

Virginia. She had strong faith and encouraged her children to know and

love the Lord.

Elizabeth enjoyed her family, cooking, reading, doing crossword puzzles,

listening to music and singing along with music, picking a guitar, playing

the harmonica, and watching sports; especially seeing Tiger Woods winning

at golf.

For many years, she completed the weekly puzzle in the newspaper, always

expecting to win a big monetary prize.

She liked looking good and enjoyed wearing her jewelry, makeup and nice

clothes.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory: her sister, Katherine Lofton;

nine children, Virginia Boone, Eva Chaney-Keyes, Barbara Chaney-

Leak, Yvonne Chaney, Brenda Chaney, Bertha Chaney, Vernon Chaney,

Vernette Chaney and Valerie Chaney; a son-in-law, James Keyes; thirteen

grandchildren, Robert Boone, Patricia Shell, Annette Carey, Pamela Boone,

Anthony Keyes, Timothy Keyes, Joseph Leak, Michele Leak-Austin, Danielle

Campbell, Brian Harrison, Michael Chaney, Monte Lewis and Ryan Davis;

and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren,

nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her godchildren from the

DMV. Elizabeth's husband, Woodrow Wilson Chaney, siblings, Sally Ann,

Lucinda, Sam, Elijah, Mary, Otis, Toy, and Bradshaw, sons Eugene Chaney

and Michael Chaney, and grandchildren Barbara Chaney, Richard Boone

and Carlos Harrison preceded her in death.
