Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Lemon, daughter of the late Viola and Clarence Murrill, and wife of the late Robert Lee Lemon Sr., was born on December 26, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the third sibling out of eleven brothers and two sisters. On February 23, 2012, our beloved mother made her final journey home to be with the Lord. Elizabeth was known as Mrs. Ann in the community and affectionately, called "Grandma Ann" by the young children in the family. Ann received her education at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore City and attended the Red Cross Training Program where she received her G.E.D., General Education Diploma. In fulfilling her dream to become a nurse, she enrolled in the Community College of Baltimore's Nursing Program where she became a L.P.N. Licensed Practical Nurse. Her employment history details working for some well known businesses and organizations; such as, Sol Levinson's Funeral Home, Little Sisters of the Poor, University and Maryland General Hospitals, and the State of Maryland as a Home Care Provider during her early years of retirement. Ann was a quiet and private person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She provided what we call today "human services," the act of helping your fellow man or woman in various capacities; such as, giving advice or making sure you never went hungry while feeding you food for your body and spirit in displaying "God's Love."Due to her willingness to help those in need and get involved in the community she was befriend by Baltimore's first Afro-American police pioneer, Lieutenant violet Whyte. Also, she assisted Bea Gaddy during during her grass roots stages of development as a volunteer in distributing clothes and feeding the poor. Ann loved all thirteen of her children, especially her boys; from Nathaniel being on her mind as she took her last breath, Ricky spending his days off sitting with her making sure he always had a lollipop treat for her and Gregory who mirrors her image.. It is said, "in order to help another person it takes the giving of oneself." Jackie, Ann's granddaughter made the sacrifice to help honor her wish in being able to stay at home by providing home care. In taking cues from the elder grandchild, the great-grandchildren, Ian and Mealia assisted in providing care too performing the daily ritual of lotioning her skin. The imprints of her spirit will never be forgotten and exist forever in their hearts and minds of her loving children and family; from her favorite colors, red and white, to wearing big pretty hats and watching her perk up when she heard her favorite song "At Last" by Etta James. Ann was preceded in death by three of her children, Eddie and Edward Lemon and Charles Lemon, five brothers, two sisters, five grandchildren, seven sisters-in-law, one daughter-in-law and one devoted son-in-law, William Wylie Sr. Ann leaves to cherish her memory; seven sons, Nathaniel, Robert Lee Jr., Raymond, Ricky, Donald, Gregory and Aundrey; three daughters, Gloria, Coreen and Demise; five brothers, Walter, Nathaniel, Albert Beaver, Danny and Erin Butch; eight sisters-in-law, Shirley, Martha, Virginia and Carleen Murrill, Irene House, Hollie Mae James, Bertha Miller and Beatrice Hicks; twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren in which Ann was proud of them all, especially Tynecia Cannie who is pursing her Doctorate in Psychology, ten great-great-grandchildren; an aunt, Shirley Harris; two sons-in-law, John Keith and LaVern McCulloh; five daughters-in-law, Carolyn, Peggy, Lydia, Kathy and Veronica; and a special friend, Edith Briscoe; and her beloved pets, Roscoe, Kizzy and Pretty the cat; and a host of other relates and friends.
