Obituary

Elizabeth Madden Ruffin went home to be with the Lord after ninety years on Sunday, May 29, 2010. Born in Greensville, South Carolina to the late Gus Madden and Anna Johnson, she was the fifth of six siblings. She received her education in South Carolina. She was married to the Nelson James Ruffin. Preceding her death are two daughters celestia Lyle and Gloria King and her first grandson, Alfred James Lyle. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior while attending Cedar Grove Baptist Church in south Carolina. after moving to Baltimore, Maryland she united with New St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of the late rev. I.J. gilliam and later under the leadership of the late Rev. Allen Jones. She was a member of the Senior board and the business manager of the Junior Usher Board. she was involved with mnany committees and organizations such as the Drama Club, the Courtesy Commettee and others. She was an excellent seamstress who used her gift to bless others in garment for fashion shows, entire wedding parties, church organizations, family and friends. One of her many passions was to show God's love through biblical plays which she directed and personally made custumes by hand. Another was preparing and serving meals to family, friends and anyone in need. She loved to travel visiting many different states and coutries, including Canada and even a cruise to Bermuda. She retired after many years as a cook from Margaret Bennett School for girls and began to volunteer as a foster grandparent to preschool age children, who often referred to her "Grandma." She leaves to cherish her memory; a loving and faithful dauther, Barbara Jean Turner; two devoted sons, Frank Madden and Rubin Barry Madden; son-in-law, Warren Turner; sister, Anna Mae Wilfong of Hendersonville, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren; four goddaughters, one godson; a faithful traveling buddy, Gloria Brisbon; many nieces, nephews, cousins, a loving church family and a host of friends.
