Obituary

For I am ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I havefought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. (II Timothy 4:6-7) Ella Mae Edwards, affectionately known as "Ella Mae", the oldest of six siblings, was born on September II, 1936 in Tucker Hill, Virginia to the late Rose Zena Thompson Askins. On Friday evening, February 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving family at the St Elizabeth's Nursing Center, Ella slipped peacefully into Eternal Rest. Ella confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined Zion Baptist Church. Educated in the Westmoreland County VA Schools, she moved to Baltimore, MD shortly after leaving A. T. Johnson High School. Ella met and married the late Willie Edwards Sr. andfrom this union six children were born: Willie Jr., Arnold, Jackie, Faye, Daphne and Darryl. They were later joined by Willie's daughter Gloria, who Ella loved like her own. Ella was employed at a Textile Factory and at Blue Boy's Sub Shop in Walbrook Junction where she prepared some of the best sub sandwiches known in West Baltimore. In 1975 Ella changed directions and began a career as a Data Entry Clerk with Baltimore City Social Services and retired in January 1999. She then became an independent caterer and worked part-time as a cook at the Catonsville American Legion. Ella continued to practice her faith and joined the Jordan Baptist Church in 2002 under the Co-Pastorate of Rev. Joan and the late Rev. Phillip Fulcher. She attended bible study and worked with the culinary ministry. Ella was a superb cook who loved to entertain, taking exceptional pleasure in sharing her down home cooking with family and friends at her home, affectionately known as "VICKERS ROAD". She had a special way of making everyone feel welcome. She was a plant lover and had many beautiful plants andflowers in her home and yard. Ella loved going to the casinos and especially enjoyed trips to Atlantic City for a few days with her friends. She enriched the lives of everyone she knew with her kindness, tough love and wisdom. Her husband, Willie, preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by: her infant daughter, Faye and her son Arnold; grandmother Rose; brother, Hugh; grandson, Tavon and her stepfather, Clifton Askins.
