The hour came for our dearly beloved brother, Elmer Bernard Hall who departed this life on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Elmer, affectionately known as "Butchie", lived a happy childhood, taking full advantage of being the baby boy in a household of 3 older sisters. Born to the union of Thelma and Albert Hall on September 6, 1953, Butchie was always an active, personable and adventurous spirit. He enjoyed meeting new people, socializing and his larger than life personality captured the hearts of everyone he met. His thirst for adventure and knowledge lead him to his life's passion for travel, education, and serving God through song. Baptized into his faith as a young man, he devoted himself to serving on various choirs throughout his lifetime. Some of those choirs include: Pauline Wells Lewis Legacy Mass Choir, Maryland Suburban Mass Choir, John Beasley and The Interfaith Community Singers, and The Hallelujah Choral Ensemble to name a few. As a member of the numerous vocal groups he was always ready and willing to travel with his fellow songsters to make a joyful noise in testament to his faith. He was an active member of City Temple of Baltimore Baptist Church at the time of his transition. Elmer was a seeker of education and embraced the opportunity to further his academic studies, and professional career as often as possible. His educational accolades began as early as 1983 when he received his Diploma in Practical Nursing from The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, School of Practical Nursing, Baltimore, Maryland. He went on to receive an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing from Anne Arundel Community College in 1989, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Coppin State University in 1996, a Master of Science Degree in Education from Coppin State University in 2000, and a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Health Administration in 2006 from Kennedy-Western University of Wyoming, earning him the right to be addressed: Dr. Elmer B Hall, MS,BSN,RN,C. With an exhaustive list of accomplishments, certifications and awards, he was elevated to Division Director at Spring Grove Hospital Center, until he retired in June 2012. Retirement, and a few health challenges did not stop his quest for continuing education, and utilizing his skills. As a certified trainer and consultant, with expansive administrative expertise, Elmer returned to work part-time and continued working until his passing. A mentor, a manager, a supervisor, an educator, a trainer and a giver of patient care, Elmer was praised and well respected among his peers. Butchie enjoyed life to the fullest, and traveling was one of his favorite things to do between work and school. He would flash a smile a mile wide when a planned trip was near, and before he finished one he was actively planning another! His last trip was sailing the Caribbean with a group of family and friends just this October, and it was a good time. Butchie has a host of family and friends who will sincerely miss him. He leaves to cherish his precious memories two sisters: Doris Lois Burroughs (MD), Gloria Hall (MD): 7 step brothers and sisters: Muriel, Sabrina, Vera, Lorraine, Purnell, April and Tracy (All from MD): God daughter: Jasman Rice (MD): a host of nieces and nephews, and cousins: a special big brother friend: George Eggleston: Club 3233 Members: and many other friends and colleagues who loved him dearly.
