Elton William McDowell, son of the late William H. and Cora L. McDowell, was born on October 10, 1930 in Kearneysville, West Virginia. He peacefully departed this life and went to his heavenly home on October 22, 2016. Elton was 86 years old.
Elton received his education ill the West Virginia and Maryland School Systems.
He gave honorable and faithful service to the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During 1951 he was a Prisoner of War. He earned several service medals and awards. After his military service he was employed as a nursing assistant in the Martinsburg V A Medical Center. When he moved to Baltimore he continued working at the Loch Raven Veterans Administration Hospital and the Baltimore V A Medical Center until his retirement in 1994. He was affectionately known as "Mac" to his co-workers and friends. Elton was dedicated in serving the veteran patients and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center for 42 years.
On June 17, 1961 Elton married Juanita Chase, the love of his life, and from this union they were blessed with three loving daughters. In 2016, they celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage. Elton was baptized into Christ Jesus in 1961. Together, he and his wife were faithful members of the Church of Christ for over 50 years.
Elton was a humble, faithful, compassionate person who always had a kind spirit. He had a quiet strength. He loved to watch sports, go walking and sitting on his front porch to relax. He had a great sense of humor. Some of his favorite sayings were, "I'm doing tolerably well", "You know what I mean" and "Alright, alright". He will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew him.
Elton was preceded in death by, sister, Jean Mason. He will forever be in the memories of his wife, Juanita; daughters, Sharonne, Paula and Alicia; son-in- law, Kenneth; grandchildren, Christopher, Anna, Deborah and David; sisters, Margaret Cheney and Clara McDowell; brother, Charles McDowell; sisters- in-law, Marie McDowell, Dorethea Carter, Brenda Chase and Barbara Brown; brothers-in-law, Wesley Brown, James Chase and Donald Chase; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends..
