IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elvira
Jones
July 21, 1926 – December 22, 2018
Elvira Jones was born on July 2, 1926 in Marion, South Carolina.
On Saturday, December 22,2018, after a lengthy illness, she went
home to be with the Lord.
Elvira, affectionately known as Vi, was the only child of John
& Alice Mack. She graduated from Marion County High School
before coming to Baltimore in 1944, where she then received
a Certificate from Carver Evening School in Home Nursing in
May 1960.
Elvira became a housewife after meeting and marrying the love
of her life George A. Jones. Together they had nine children. She
was preceded in death by her devoted husband George and
children Anthony Jones, Portia McNeil and Carolyn Benson.
Elvira accepted Christ at an early age and made certain that her
entire family had church involvement. She was a member of
Christian Community Church of God for over 60 years, where
she was extremely active on various committees to include the
Usher Board and Hospitality. She loved her community and the
people from the community were always drawn to her because
of her warm smile and fun sense of humor. Being a cornerstone of
the "Fairmount A venue Family", Elvira was considered like a
second mother to many. Her home was a heartfelt gathering spot
for all family and friends because she knew how to make you
feel special, welcomed and loved.
She was the ROCK of the Jones family! All her kids could count on
her in good times and bad. They never had to worry about a sitter
since you could always find the grandkids at grandma's house every
weekend. And, restaurants were not necessary since there was
always a home cooked meal on the table every Sunday without fail.
The dinner table became the glue to bringing and keeping the family
together since no one would pass up her fried chicken, barbeque
ribs, mac & cheese and candied sweets. In between raising kids,
baking pies and cakes for the church and other tasks,
she liked to bowl, play cards and socialize with her many friends.
Left to cherish her memories are children: Donald McNeil; Cynthia
Timpson (Leroy); Clem A. Jones (Cassandra); Evelyn Sebree
(William Sr.); Frances Johnson; Ernest Jones and a host of
grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and
a multitude of relatives and friends, including one very special
life-long "sister" Marie Kornegay.
