Obituary

EMMA WINSLOW, daughter of the late Billy Carney and Ella Jordan, was born on May 9, 1927 in Norfolk County, Virginia. Emma quietly departed this life on August 12, 2013. Emma was baptized at Union Bethel Baptist Church in Jolliff, Virginia. She received her education in the Jolliff and Churchland school districts. On October 25, 1947, Emma married John Winslow. From this union they were blessed with nine daughters and one son. Their union was such a strong bond that it lasted fifty-nine years. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland in the early 1950's, Emma joined Enon Baptist Church and has been a member for over fifty years. She was a member, of Granison Seniors, the Nurse's Ministry, the Mother's Club and the Willing Workers. Affectionately known to family and close friends as "Polly," Emma received nursing training for a License Practical Nurse at Carver Vocational Technical High School in Baltimore. Always a loving and caring person, she began her career at Children's Hospital and ended it at Randallstown Convalescent Nursing Home where she gave over twenty-five years of service. Although Emma worked outside of the home, she was a meticulous housekeeper and took pride in her beautiful houseplants and garden. As a woman of strong faith, Emma reared her children in church and encouraged them to get a good education. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Winslow Sr.; two daughters, Barbara Ann Dugger and Paula Winslow; and a son, John E. Winslow Jr. Emma leaves behind to cherish her memory: seven daughters, JoAnn Trusty, Karen Thomas, Diane Winslow, Pamela Monger (Carl), Sharon Winslow-Robinson (Richard), Debra Winslow and Denise King (Theodore); eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
