ESTELLA GARY was born on December 2, 1926 in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Buddy and Louise Crowell. She departed this life peacefully on May 1, 2013. Estella began her education in Halifax County Schools. After the family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, she continued her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She often reminisced of her days at Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. She met and later married the late Hampton Gary on April 18, 1942. God blessed this union of forty-three years. Out of this union two children were born: Nathaniel and Regina. Estella joined the First Baptist Church of Cherry Hill in the late 1950s under the leadership of the late Pastor John L. Clark, succeeded by the late Rev. Dr. Henry Simon. She was truly devoted to God and her church. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and baker, especially known for her sweet potato pies. She later joined the workforce, retiring from Maryland General Hospital after sixteen years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Nathaniel; one daughter, Regina; five grandchildren, Lenae, Eric (Raeann), Teron (Candis), Terrell and Taurean; four great-grandchildren, Kendra, Jaedon, Eric II and Tristian; two sisters, Olivia McGee of Enfield, NC and Barbara Ausby of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Lee Ausby also of Baltimore, MD; one daughter-in-law, Paula; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
