Estelle Steele was born on August 23, 1926, in South Carolina, to the late John and Ellen Steele. She received her education in the South Carolina school system advanced in wisdom and knowledge. Estelle left South Carolina and moved to Washington D.C, where she meet her life partner, David A. Higgins. From their union nine children were born Estelle and David left Washington D.C and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Upon her journey she dedicated her life to Christ at the Prince of peace, Missionary Baptist church, under the teachings of Henry Eden, Pastor. She later became the pupil of Reverend Maddox of the same church, which her mother was a member. Estelle was a devoted mother and grandmother, loved cooking, church, doing puzzles and especially listening to gospel music. Estelle affectionately known as "Morna" or "Grandma" became ill where she battled a good fight to the finish. Estelle leaves to cherish her memory, six daughters Antonia, Mary, Thelma, Henretta, Lillian, and Althea; three sons Nathaniel, who proceeded her in death, Kenneth, and David.
