Esther Clair Smith, daughter of the late John and Lagretta Bayton, was born on October 16, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the youngest of five, two sisters and two brothers, they all preceded her in death. She received her education the Baltimore Public School System. At a young age she was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, Fremont Avenue and Lanvale Street. Esther married the lat Ulysses "Bus" Johnson and from this union were two sons Gary U. Johnson and Lionel R. Johnson, they also preceded her in death. In 1960 she married Trustee Shirley b. Smith and jioned Leadenhall baptist cghurch, where she also jioned the Senior Usher Board in 1960. she was a member of the trustee Aides and the Friday Senior Citizens Group. She was employed by the baltimore Gas and Electric Company for thirty-two years as Microfilm Processing Clerk. She leaves two granddaughters, Tamar Harvin of Los Angels, Calfornia and Chaundra Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland. Although most of her family preceded her in death, she left many friends of the family and friends to cherish her memory. Held in special regards are; Mrs. Lavada Howard, Rev. Calvin and Mrs. Doris Pettigrew, Ms. Marggarett Cunningham, Ms. Sheila Scott, Ms. Tamara Peterson, Mrs. Glenda Goodwin, Ms. Danielle Johnson, Mr. Reginald Yates; and her beloved ushers and members of the Leadenhall Baptist Church.
