Obituary

Ethel Ndathellia Carroll, Efa, Mama, Grandma, daughter of the late Reverends Joseph and Lillian Lee, was born May 29, 1927, in Rocky Poiont, North Carolina. She departed this life on April 1, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Ethel was the eldest daughter of eleven children who affectionately referred to her as Efa. She was preceded in death by sister Lillie Mae Armstrong, brothers Richard Lee, Reverend Van Lee Sr., stepson Henry Carroll and son-in-law Leroy Pendelton. She was one of the matriarchs of the Lee family. Ethel received her education at Pender County training School located in Rocky Point, North Carolina. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age at Mt. Rena Baptist Church in North Carolina. Upon coming to Baltimore she joined Strangers Friends Baptist Church and later joined Cornerstone Christian Community Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Von Lee Sr. There she was a member of the Pastor's Aid Committee and Senior Chior. Ethel was proud of her relationship with Christ. She often bragged of how she knew Jesus and He knew her. Her spiritual gift was love. She believed passionately that we should love one another. Her favorite hymns were ''Jesus Keep Me Near the cross'' and ''Precious Lord Take My Hand.'' Early in life, Ethel met and married the late Samuel Carroll Jr. Later they moved to Baltimore, Maryland and in 1952 she became employed at St. Joe Paper company where she faithfully worked for more than 30 years, as a machine operator. There she met life long friends; Booker W. Griffin, and the late Minnie E. Wright and Juanita Stokes. After retiring she devoted her life raising her grandchildren. For relaxation she enjoyed watching the Young and the Restless, playing card, sitting of the porch, cooking, eating fish, entertaining family and friends, and celebrating holidays. Her last prayer was, Lord I have labored and I am ready to be taken home to that prepared place You have for me.'' Ethel leaves to cherish wonderful memories of her life well lives by; six children, Van Lean, Joseph, Roy, Pastor Wonda Cofield, Gail and Kenneth; one daught-in-law Cheryl; one stepdaughter, Pernell; thirteen grandchildren, Patrica, Tammy, Styiedha, Sophia, Pastor Jammie Pendelton, Jermietra, Tierra, Darrell, Samantha, Diane, Swayne and Byron; one granddaughter-in-law, Gabrielle; nineteen greatgradndchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Josetta, Adelia, Minnie Jane and Mary Jane; three brothers, Levi, Nathaniel and Leonard; one brother-in-law, Floyd; three sister-in-laws, Alma, Elizabeth and Rachel Lee. Andrea, Latia, Tyrese, Malachi, Eugene and Deasia were special in her heart along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
