After over 90 years of' life, Eugene Clark returned to his God in Heaven on September 12, 2013. He was born in Baltimore, MD on February 20, 1923 and adopted at birth by Walter and Lena Clark. Upon Lena's death when Eugene was 5 or 6, he was adopted by his Uncle Gossice and Aunt Nettie Spencer. He attended Freetown Elementary School, walking 2 miles through the woods from his home on Old Annapolis Blvd. in Pasadena, MD. He subsequently graduated from Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis, MD in 1941. Eugene married Gertrude Roberta Stevenson from Baltimore, MD in 1945 after meeting her a few years earlier at Broad Neck Methodist Church Camp Meeting. They had two children, Kenneth Eugene Clark and Joyce Elaine Clark Edwards. Their marriage ended upon her death in 1980 after h 35 years. His subsequent marriage to Carlean Gaither Clark ended in divorce. They however remained dear friends. Eugene was known to be an ardent, creative, and competent man. He was a skilled plumber and carpenter who built his own house and worked for various plumbing and construction contractors in the Glen Burnie area. He also built room additions added and fixed windows, doors, roofs and plumbing for many houses in Freetown and the surrounding area. He continued to enjoy fixing arid adjusting things throughout his life and always maintained a set of good tools. Eugene worked for Hochschild Kohn department store for 25 years. He enjoyed gardening and giving his produce to neighbors and fiends. He had a lifelong hobby of working with model trains. He and Gert enjoyed many family outings with their dear friends Clayton and Evelyn Greene to parks and recreation areas in Maryland and the surrounding area. His enjoyment of staying fit through walking in the Marley Mall and Arundel Mills netted him awards for being the top male walker in Arundel Mills completing over 2700 miles in one 3 year period. He was actively involved in Hall United Methodist Church where he sang on the Young Adult/Senior Choir II and Men's Chorus. He also served as the church treasurer for 30 years. Eugene is survived by: 2 children, Kenneth and Joyce; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sims Clark; 6 grandchildren, Angela Allen, Charles Allen (Marnette), Tanya Clark Morgan (Eric), K. Wesley Eldridge Clark (Courtney), Meredith Horton and Carl Horton, Jr.; 9 great-grandchildren, his devoted friend, Doris Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
