EUGENE JAMES GARNER, son of the late Mervin L. Garner and Irene Logan Garner, departed this life on Monday, July 22, 2013 in Sinai Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He developed spiritually at Fulton Baptist Church and then joined family members at Mt. Hope Baptist Church. He received his formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. After high school he attended Apex Barber School. For a number of years he used his abilities to earn a prosperous living. His skills as a chauffeur were unsurpassed as he drove a cab for Baltimore Washington International Airport. He also drove a bus for Baltimore City Public Schools. "Bones," as he was affectionately known, was quiet, loving, unassuming and adored by all who knew him. Eugene was there for his family and friends and instrumental in all family functions. He shared a special bond with his niece/goddaughter, Tia Cannady-Wooden and his cousin, Arnold Deshields who cared for him tirelessly during his time of illness. He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing chess, checkers and pinochle. Eugene leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Miriam Garner; his son, Eugene James Garner Jr.; stepson, Darryl McQuaige; stepdaughter, Andrea Green; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; one brother, Stewart Garner (Leah); four sisters, Florine Powell, Kay Ferrell, Hortense Cannady and Alice Gaskins (Raeford); nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
