Obituary

Eugenia Elizabeth Payne-Hinton, daughter of the late Eugene and Ethel Payne, was born on February 13,1927 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on November 28, 2015 after a brief illness.

Eugenia was affectionately known as Jean, as well as Lia to her children and grandchildren. As a child she received her education from the Baltimore City Public School System. She then went on to marry the late Willie D. Hinton.

Lia had many successful careers before retirement. She once served as an air-raid warden during war-time, when the signal would sound, she would go through the neighborhood .getting everyone to safety. She also loved to travel with her sisters,- her children and grandchildren. She often commented that she was on "Ready Street", all she needed was twenty-four hours notice.

In her youth she was a member of Douglas Memorial Community Church where she would attend Sunday school every Sunday. Later in life, she would join Christ Edmondson United Methodist Church under the leadership of Reverend Isaac Mawokomatanda. Lia loved Sunday school and never wanted to be late. The church later merged to become New Covenant United Methodist Church where she remained a faithful member before she became ill.

Lia made numerous friends wherever she traveled and she will be sincerely missed by everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Hinton, and two sons Marvin Hill Sr. and Garry Hinton.
