Obituary

Eula Almeta Witherspoon, a doting aunt and longtime nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. died on September 17, 2012 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. of complications following surgery. The Lochearn resident was fifty-nine. Boron on December 4, 1952 in Baltimore, she was the oldest daughter of the late Mary and Willard Witherspoon. she was named for grandmothers, Eula Witherspoon and Almeta Clark. She spent her early years in South and West Baltimore and graduated in 1970 from Frederick Douglas High School. She worked for a time at an Arundel's restaurant and later received a Registered Nursing Degree from the Community college of Baltimore and a Bachelor's Degree from Morgan State University. Fiercely loyal, private and independent, she moved in the mid-1970 to Chicago, where she pursued hr nursing career. She ultimately returned to Baltimore, where she worked in various hospitals, primarily psychiatric or detoxification units, including City Hospital, the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Mercy Medical center, where she was a senior nurse in the Drug Treatment Unit. It wasn't uncommon for her to see a face from the old neighborhood. When she did, she invited them into the unit with a dose of tough love. It was with similar devotion that she helped raise her younger siblings. Affectionately called Sister or Sis, she was a generous and supportive, daughter, niece, aunt, sibling, cousin, friend and godmother. A Christian, she was one on the first in her family to join Bethel A.M.E. Church in Baltimore. On Facebook, she cited as her religion "In god We Trust," and political views as "Liberal Democratic Party." Her interests were "men, money, music and travel" - in that order. Her hobbies included genealogy, and she visited the Witherspoon Plantation, near were her father grew up/ she never married and had no children but had several loving relationships, may lasting friendships and was part of a large extended family. She was predeceased by he parents and her brother, Jonathan. she is survived by; seven brothers, Thomas Clark his wife Jean of Willingboro, NJ, Jesse Clark his wife Rev. Eva of Fort Washington, MD, Willard Witherspoon his wife Lois D. of Owings Mills, MD., Eugene Witherspoon of Philadephia, PA., Marvin Witherspoon of Baltimore, MD., Michael Witherspoon his wif Dr. Patricia Wilson-Whitherspoon of Irmo, SC and Gary Witherspoon his wife Famebridge of Lawrence, MA., four sisters, Wanda Witherspoon of Baltimore, MD., Patrica Witherspoon her husband Lance Fierro of Owings Mills, MD., Denise Witherspoon of Los Angeles, CA., and Michele Thompson her husband Michael of Towson, MD., five nieces, Winifred "Wendy" Witherspoon of San Antonio, TX., Melanie Clark of Fort Washington, MD., Sara Witherspoon of Irmo, SC., Niyah Witherspoon of Southbridge, MA., and Oliva Thompson of Towson, MD.,; ten nephews, Tony and Reginal Clark of Willingboro, NJ., Marcus Clark of Largo, MD., Stephen Witherspoon of Owings Mills, MD., Zachary Witherspoon of LosAngeles, CA., E. Nathaniel Witherspoon of Phildelphia, PA., Jonathan Witherspoon of Milford Mill, MD., Jordahn and Ahmadee Witherspoon of Southbridge, MA., and Jackson Witherspoon of Lawrence, MA., a sister-in-law, Robin McCants of Milford Mill, MD.,; two aunts Luvenia McCauley Sr. of Baltimore , MD. and Rosa Reese of Sumter, SC., three uncles, Abraham McCauley Sr. of Baltimore, MD., Grover Johnson of Baltimore, MD., and Willie Clark of Jacksonville, FL., a goddaughter, D'Asia Patrick of Baltimore, MD.,; and many cousins and friends.
