IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fannie Pearl
Pumphrey
November 13, 1935 – September 5, 2024
Fannie was the first daughter of Pearl and Charles E. Smith.
She was born, raised and educated in New York City.
When she was in her early twenties, she became a young bride and mother after meeting and marrying Overton Pumphrey. From this union they had
one delightful son, Carl Pumphrey, a bright and well liked young man whose death at a young age was difficult for everyone.
Having gone on to receive her Bachelor's and Master's degree from the City College of New York where she was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Fannie wets able to rise in the ranks of her department where
she worked for the New York Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She spent her entire career working there in various capacities which eventually
included traveling around the country.
When she retired, she was able to devote more of her time to personal travel which she loved. Going on a safari to Africa was one of the more memorable experiences she had coupled with the many trips she took to the Philippines to
visit with what became known as her second family, at that time.
During her early retirement, she moved from New York to Virginia spending several years in the county where her mother had grown up. In all of the
places she lived she was a dedicated member to the church offering each her time and support over the years.
She eventually moved from Virginia to upstate New York before relocating one last time to the state of Mary land where she spent the last years of her life.
It was here in Maryland where she was surrounded by the generosity, care and support of family members, friends and community that contributed
selflessly to her total comfort and survival by being her lifeline. While residing in Middle River she also became a member of Rosedale Baptist Church.
The gratitude of her siblings and their children for this unerring support to our sister and their aunt is boundless and will always remain in our hearts and
memories.
She is survived by her two sisters Lois Jordan and Betty Smith, cousins Marsha Coleman and Antoinette Williams and a host of nieces, nephews and
cousins and extended family members.
May she rest in peace.
