Obituary

Floyd Sylvester Holland, son of the late Charles and Sarah Jane Holland, was born on January 10, 1926 in Elvaton, Maryland and he departed this glorious life on August 22, 2007. Floyd was the youngest of four siblings, Christine , Nathaline Nat and Arbutus Beaute all who preceded him in death. Floyd was a graduate of Wiley H. Bates High School and later continued his education at around the age of 70 at Catonsville Community College in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied math and was known as the oldest and greatest mathematician who could solve the most complex problems you could ever imagine. Floyd was a man after God's heart. He loved to read the word of God and discuss the Bible amongst family and friends. Sometimes he would share stories of how he would go to sleep at night and find himself still reading the Bible in his sleep. He could recite scriptures and tell you the exact location verbatim. He was passionate about studying the word of God. Early on, he joined St. Johns United Methodist Church in Patapsco Park, Maryland and later continued his membership with Town Neck United Methodist Churh until his illness caused him to stop. Floyd loved to travel and was a genuine lover of checkers, football, wrestling and pool. He also enjoyed studying the technique of sports. He was employed as a longshoreman and construction worker prior to his greatest accomplishments and twenty-six year tenure at the United States Coast Guard as a chipper. Floyd leaves rejoicing in his memory: his devoted wife of seven years, Dr. Mary Martha Holland; his daughter, Evelyn C. Jackson; son-in-law, Anthony Jackson; four grandchildren, Cherese, Trena, Andre and Blake; two nieces, Elaine Shell and Lorraine White Dooky; nephew Wayne Holland; sister-in-law, Mary Chase; the adopted neighborhood family ''The Brown's'' and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
