IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frances Alene
Harris
December 6, 1935 – January 8, 2026
Frances Alene Harris
, the fourth of five children, was born on December 6th,1935,
to the late Alice Queen and Bernard Williams of Baltimore, Maryland. Mrs. Harris
transitioned from this life in her home on January 8th, 2026, surrounded by the love
and care of her two daughters, three granddaughters, and their spouses, in addition to
her three great-grandchildren, who brought her internal joy.
Mrs. Frances, often referred to as Mom, Gram, and Aunt Frances, received her
formal education in the Baltimore Public School System, graduating from Douglass
High School in 1954, and continued her education, securing her bachelor's degree
from Notre Dame in Baltimore. Frances began her career as one of the first African
American secretaries at the Maryland State Department of Education, where she
continued to advance her skills and knowledge in the Public Health field, leading to
her prominent role as the first minority Senior Analyst during her tenure at the Office
of Social Security in Maryland.
In 1955, Frances married her childhood sweetheart, Leonard Harris (who
preceded her in death), with the blessings of her father and family. From this union,
Frances was further blessed with two daughters, Alice Harris and Lenore Hayes, and
son-in-law Langley Hayes, as well as three granddaughters and their spouses: Jessica
Hayes-Crosby & Delonte Crosby; Nicole McAdoo-Hughes & James Hughes; and
Leeza Hayes-Williams & Antoine Williams. She also leaves to mourn her three
great-grandchildren, Morgan & Adrian Williams, and Harrison Hughes; her brother,
Bernard Williams; her Godson, Frank Thomas; extended family members and
friends who brought her so much joy.
Frances not only enjoyed the time she spent traveling with her family,
celebrating birthdays and holidays, but also the joy of sharing her incredible cooking
skills with family members, friends, and neighbors. Throughout her 90 years, she has
been steadfast in her commitment as a woman of faith and integrity, a servant to
those in need, and a volunteer and donor to multiple charities supporting children and
families. We are here today to honor Frances Harris, a woman who valued herself,
protected her children and family, and laid the foundation for our future generations.
