IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick W.
Coleman, Jr.
February 21, 1947 – January 6, 2018
FREDERICK WILLIAM COLEMAN, JR. was born in Baltimore, Maryland on
February 21, 1947 to the late Frederick and Dora Jane Coleman. He was affec-
tionately called Fred by some, Junior by his siblings and Sneak by his friends. On
January 6, 2018, he departed from this life to be with the Lord.
Fred was educated in Baltimore City Public Schools and received his
Maryland General Education diploma. During his youth, he was a very skillful
table tennis player and won many competitions. Though he enjoyed many rec-
reational activities, he was also very mature at a young age. Fred was the eldest
of nine children and took on many adult responsibilities to help his family. As a
testament of his unwavering love and devotion to support his family, he began
working at the tender age of 14 for a Read's Drug Store. With his consistent
display of great leadership ability, he was quickly promoted to supervisory posi-
tions. These characteristics followed him throughout his career and social life.
Fred was faithful and steady. His motivation to constantly position himself to be
promoted in his career stemmed from his strong desire to provide a better life
for his family; first for his siblings and later when he started his own family. Fred
was a promise keeper for both his family and friends. As he rose in the ranks,
from burner to welder to foreman at Maryland Drydock, he was instrumental in
helping family members, as well as neighborhood men and women obtain em-
ployment whenever he could.
Fred worked and retired as lead welder after 20 years of successful service at
the United States Coast Guard. This is where he met his "buddy" and best friend
Doris, whom he married on August 11, 2001. He was a loving husband and he
enjoyed spending time with Doris. Fred was fun-loving and an avid sports fan,
especially of football. He looked forward to hanging out and having
conversations with his son about the stock market and other current events.
Also, he enjoyed time spent with his daughters and granddaughter. In addition
to loving his family and friends, Fred loved the Lord. He was saved and was a
member of First Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Fred was preceded in death by: his brother, Clarence Bernard Coleman and his
sister, Jacqueline Denise Coleman. He leaves to treasure his loving memories:
his devoted wife, Doris Coleman, three children: Desiree Haskins (Michael),
Frederick William Coleman, III, Tasha Spencer; four brothers, Douglas Coleman,
Quincy Coleman (Hope), Donnell Coleman, Gerald Coleman (Rosemary); Two
sisters: Cynthia Watkins, Gloria Woodmore (Daryl); one granddaughter: Brittony
Stewart; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
